Maria Finn’s work evolves around time, patterns and landscape. Finn wishes to tell stories about what is forgotten or overlooked, where what might appear as insignificant is highlighted and presented in a new context. She deploys a wide range of medias such as drawing, photography, video and embroidery to develop her concepts, and to create new associations and expressions. In her detailed and precise pencil drawings she enforces a sense of absence through abstraction or by leaving areas empty. The videos are made with a hand-held camera where the encounter with a place becomes part of the story. A recurring theme is the use of narratives, either when she uses quotes from existing literature or writes short texts herself.
